WILL MEET U @ UR CAR
From that old opening scene of the Breaking Bad S02 episode to this >:)
SOMEWHERE
Overall a very moody but it’s the right kind of moody ;)
Software: Cinema 4D, Redshift, Photoshop, Ae

That opening scene
That opening scene from Breaking Bad s02 has been something that lingered around in my brain for a long, long time because it has been almost a decade ago that I watched the show.
I wonder why certain shots from tv shows and movies are more memorable than others… Especially in this opening scene, I think, it’s the suggestive part of the narrative and the visual cues that WORK the viewer to piece the context of the situation together. It’s like the pointillism movement; why did George Seurat and Paul Signac not want to mix the colors on the palette but rather mix the colors by putting each as dots right next to each other - so the colors get mixed in the eyes of the viewer and not the artist mixing the color and picking the color for the viewer! It may be a far stretch trying to connect Breaking Bad directing style to pointillism but there is something about leaving a space for the viewer to fill in the story of what they see.
So, I've been wanting to play with this idea of something suggestive that gives more work done in the viewer's brain, rather than completely visually spoon-feeding the whole context.
I guess what I end up with is pretty straightforward though because we know what's up when the car window fogs up 🤣
This is the initial sketch that I started with!
Then, moved on to the colors and 2d animations that will be inside the car!
In terms of color, I wanted to play with mainly warm colors because it’s steamy, ahhahahadhfkadfaj 😂
Animations were done with simple path animations in Ae but I kept them pretty, um… organic. I wanted to stay away from being too realistic on the movements because a) it’s too much and b) it’s quite uncomfortable to be that graphic. I guess the animation still gives a lot but I tried to find a fine balance between being erotic and still being playful with shapes and movements.

LOVE LOW-POLY CARS
I don’t know why I have been so obsessed over low-poly cars lately but somehow it brings me joy to draw and model low-poly cars. So, here we go!
The tree leaves are sculpted out because I wanted to give a more organic feeling to them, instead of being perfect oval shapes. I reused the houses from Basketball Lady as BG elements, which is a great perk in working in 3D; lots of assets are reusable in other personal projects! The bouncing animation is looping in position and a little bit of rotation.

Styleframe x)
I’ve been finding that it’s hard to get the style frame right away from the get-go when mixing 2d and 3d elements together. I am also experimenting a lot in both mediums to find the right amount of each. So, I guess I like to leave the style frame a little bit open-ended from the beginning so there is more room to play!
Usually, I bake everything out of C4D instead of adjusting the passes in the post-comping process. But this was tricky with the lighting and color because I wanted to keep the feeling of something mischievous happening in the dark while still maintaining the point of interest inside the car. The point of interest is usually made with high contrast in value but I wanted the inside of the car to be dark and kind of hard to see.
To sum up, it was a lot of adjustments and playing around with passes in Ae!
final >:)
All put together with sfx!
